A tool to set up composite material analysis J-Composites

A modeling tool for designing and developing composite materials in accordance with various forming processes

Works with Ansys LS-DYNA to support the utilization of simulations for a wide variety of composite forming processes

Fiber Reinforcement Plastic (FRP), which is a key material in the advancement of weight reduction and material strengthening for a variety of industries, has a variety of forming methods, depending on fiber configuration and the type of resins used. To accommodate the automation of molding processes aimed at achieving both high cycle rates and low costs, there is a strong demand for pre-molding condition evaluation through simulation.
J-Composites is a group of tools, which work in cooperation with the multi-purpose solver Ansys LS-DYNA, to facilitate complex forming process and process chain simulation of resin composite materials. It supports reducing development time and costs in manufacturing processes involving press forming and resin flow.

Three tools that help reduce development time and cost of composite-based products

This is a software series that supports resin-reinforced composite material processes and process chain analysis. The series includes a stamping simulation modeling tool "Form Modeler", a compression forming analysis modeling tool "Compression Molding", and "Fiber Mapper" which maps a composite flow simulation result to a structural mesh.

Form Modeler :
This tool reduces the labor required for composite material design by automatically converting physical property test results into material property data and automatically creating product models with complex laminate configurations. Through the use of Ansys LS-DYNA, we can simulate material behaviour during forming with high accuracy, which contributes to reduced development time and costs.

Compression Molding :
This tool incorporates a beam-in-solid coupling analysis method developed by JSOL that accurately predicts compression molding behaviour and automatically sets the optimal analysis parameters for computational stability based on JSOL's unique know-how. You can create simulation models easily and with high precision.

Fiber Mapper :
This mapping tool transfers forming analysis results of discontinuous fiber reinforced materials to their structual model counterparts for use with Ansys LS-DYNA. It enables prediction of the impacts of the forming process.

A tool to set up composite material analysis with Ansys LS-DYNA

Superior ability to solution complex forming processes and process chains of plastic composites

Lay-up modeler: Define laminates

By using Lay-up modeler, a press simulation model with a complex laminate construction (no. of plies, fiber angle for each ply) can be created in a few simple steps. Lay-up modeler auto-creates the various definitions needed for each ply in the laminate, including the conditions for contact with the tools, eliminating repetitive and cumbersome manual operations.

Fiber model (beam elements) generation

A fiber model (beam elements) can be generated by inputting parameters such as fiber composition type (ROS, ROF, UD, CUD, UACS), fiber length, strand size, number of layers, and layer pattern, etc. The estimated number of beam elements to be generated can be checked in advance.

Map the forming simulation result

Fiber Mapper appropriately maps the fiber orientation data obtained from a forming simulation on to a structural mesh. The mapping scope can be limited by part. Parallel processing is taken advantage of when possible to help map large models smoothly.
